Rajasthan has vast and largely untapped renewable energy (RE) potential that can turn the state into RE hub. National Institute of Wind Energy has assessed wind power potential of 284 GW and National Institute of Solar Energy has assessed the solar potential of 142 GW for Rajasthan. Considering this, the Government of Rajasthan in its Rajasthan Renewable Energy Policy, 2023 has set up a target of 90 GW of RE power generation upto 2029-30. While the state is witnessing significant growth of its RE generation sector, there is an urgent need to strengthen the existing power transmission infrastructure for optimal utilization of RE capacity.
Beawar Transmission Ltd (BTL) project is one such green energy corridor that is committed towards evacuating RE power while also meeting the rising energy requirements of the state. This green energy corridor project envisaged by the Ministry of Power, is envisioned with the objective of transporting power from generation areas to cater to the rising power demand in the state. It will help reduce deliberate reduction in generation of wind and solar power to maintain demand-supply balance. This will maximize the RE plant output, thereby enhancing viability of RE projects in the state. This will further help attract investment in the RE sector of Rajasthan. This will indirectly stimulate industrial development, and create employment opportunities, thereby boosting the state economy.
